What’s that? Jess is planning a trip to step outside of the little coastal town she lives in? Oh yes, she is! And oh is she excited! Okay, enough of me talking about myself in third person.
You read the title correctly. I am planning a trip to Cardiff, Wales. I haven’t travelled properly outside of this town in around 12 years which sounds hard to believe considering how much I love to travel. Now, as you can imagine, I have never planned a ”proper” trip.
”Why Cardiff?”, I hear you ask. Have you seen how beautiful Wales is? Over the past few months, I have seen some beautiful pictures and videos of Wales and I have fallen in love. I have decided to pick Cardiff because it is very close to a place I have been super eager to visit ever since I heard of its existence, Bridgend. I’ve seen some beautiful pictures of Cardiff and Brdigend and as a photographer, I am too excited to visit and take loads of pictures of the beautiful views.
I am going to be doing this in a few parts, as this is a trip that will take some time to plan, meaning this post is part one (and sort of an introductory post). I’m sure there will be a lot of changes along the way as I look more into planning the actual trip and booking places but I’m hoping to have some advice and tips from my fellow travel bloggers.
I’m aiming for the trip to actually happen in 2018. If it was up to me I would be in Wales by tomorrow night but I need to get my provisional license and learn to drive (that’s kind of essential considering I will be driving all the way to Wales). Once I have passed my driving and get my full driver’s license, it will be time to book things properly.
Calculating petrol/gas costs
I found this website that calculates how much a journey/road trip will cost. I put in all the details from my town to Cardiff and it said it would be around £150 but that sounds way too low and it would also depend on the car I have so I am looking to have more than £500 saved and ready on the side for petrol.
This lead me to think it would be a lot easier to get a lift to the closest airport to my town, get on a plane and rent a car from Cardiff airport because there is no way in hell I am gonna drive all the way there and then spend all that money on petrol.
Because I’m an internet research expert (thank you, college), I did some research. Since I won’t be going alone, I have done the following research based on 3 people and obviously based on ”as of now” prices as I may be a research expert but I’m no psychic. So, these are the totals I got from my research:
Plane tickets to Cardiff Airport from London, Heathrow: £121.00 in total if we booked now in advance for February.
Car rental for one week: £110 (isn’t that too cheap or do I just not trust any low price I see?).
Hotel (that I have already picked and have my mind set on): £740.00
So the question now is, do I drive or get plane? Most of me said to get a plane because it’s a quicker journey but I would still have to drive for 4 hours to get to Heathrow so would it not be more worth driving all the way there? I would also have my car instead of some car I would rent out.
Seriously, give me your opinions. I can’t decide. This is going to be a long planning process isn’t it?
